If your diet consists of lots of fiber, it may reduce your risk of dying from various diseases. A new study has found that people who maintain a high fiber diet may reduce risk of death and lengthen the numbers of years that they live.
Some of the diseases where risk of death decreases by eating a high-fiber diet includes respiratiory disease, heart disease, infections, diabetes and certain cancers.
The study also states that these benefits are seen in diets of whole grain plant foods and not necessarily with dietary fiber from fruits and vegetables.
The benefits were related to both men and women who had lots of whole grains in the dietary intake.
Eats Lots of Fiber in Your Diet
The take-away from this study, is that it is generally a good idea to get more fiber intense foods into your daily diet.
In general, more fiber can translate into lower mortality. That is certainly a good thing for those that are concerned about their good health and life longevity.
It has been shown that diets rich in fiber, especially whole grains, can help to lower blood cholesterol levels and help to lower blood sugar levels.

The NIH examined dietary fiber intake in relation to total mortality and death from specific causes. An inverse association between dietary fiber intake and cancer death was observed in men, but not in women.
